This morning we were still trying to debate on what Double A could wear so that he wouldn't get pinched all day!
Lady News Anchor: "Saint Patrick's Day tradition is to wear green. We wear green that you can see, but what about green that you can't see? More coming up after this."
Double A: "Mom, we still have to figure out what I can wear today so that I don't get pinched. I don't wanna get pinched and have pinching bruises on me!
Me: "Hey! I got it! You could tell everyone you have green on you boxers, but you just can't show them!" (Notice how I quickly picked up on the News Anchor's suggestion?)
Double A: "No, that won't work! There isn't green on my boxers!"
Me: "Well, sure there is! They are 'Fruit of the Loom' brand boxers. The 'Fruit of the Loom's' grapes are green, right?"
Double A: "No, mom! They are purple, not green! It's not going to work."
Me: "Well, there is green somewhere on the 'Fruit of a Loom' logo! I know there is. We'll figure out something."
With that Double A left the room. About ten minutes later, he walked back in and sat down next to me.
Me: "Hey bud, I'm still trying to figure out what you would be able to wear and won't get sent home for wearing."
Double A: "Oh, no mom, we have that figured out, remember?"
Me: "We do? Well, what are you wearing that has green on it?"
Double A: "My boxers, silly! The tag has green on it!"
Me: "Oh, well okay then!"
Maybe he double checked them or thought about it for a bit and decided that it wasn't such a bad idea after all!
After I sent him to school, I was rethinking that idea! I could just hear him tell his teacher or classmates, "You can't pinch me, I have green on my boxers, but I just can't show you!"
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!!

Oh it's Monday already? Where in the world did last week go? It's time to confess to all the things I DID NOT do last week! This blog carnival was started by MckMama. Once you've read all the things I DID NOT do all week, head over to her blog and read what she and others DID NOT do! If you haven't joined in on this carnival, what are you waiting for? Confessing to everything you DID NOT do is a great way to start your week!
There are eight people (two families) living in my house right now. I have NOT noticed total confusion of the rules around the house. I DID NOT decide to hold a "household meeting" and insisted on everyone in the household to be at the meeting in an effort to make sure everyone was on the same page regarding the rules. If I did hold said meeting, I certainly would NOT think that it would go well. No way, NOT ME!!
Princess T and I DID NOT go shopping for house necessities. If we did that, I absolutely would NOT have noticed that Princess T is NOT turning into a shop-a-holic. We most certainly DID NOT come home with ten items that weren't on our shopping list!
It was NOT so warm yesterday that I opened at least one window in each room! I am NOT excited about the fact that Spring is right around the corner! I am NOT looking forward to tomorrow's high temperature of 74 degrees here!
Go ahead and share what you DID NOT do this week! You'll be glad you did!!

It's Friday! Yay! That means the weekend is just about here and it is Grilling Goodness Day at Tina's place! I really enjoy playing! If you would like to join in or read other players' answers, all you have to do is click here!
1. Did you learn anything new this week?
I learned that the color orange can represent fertility and pregnancy! Ha! One night last week Chatterbox seen a small round orange object around his girlfriend that should not have been there. We had been trying to figure out what the orange represented and all we came up with was "creativity" until Monday night when I discovered that it also represented fertility. It had him so freaked out that night that he left and didn't come back until the next morning.
Then apparently last night, my step-sister opened her back door and made a sudden turn around and said, "Someone's pregnant! It's odd that lately when 'W' comes around, I end up seeing two stray cats!" And of course, that freaked Chatterbox out again!
2. Will you wear green on St. Patty's Day or do you not give a hoot??
I'm considering working on a St. Patty's Day project with Double A and Princess T this weekend. Something simple and that they can take to school with them. Maybe just making some clovers and coloring or painting them green. The schools here have a dress code and the color green isn't a part of their dress code. Double A is so worried that all the teachers will get to pinch all the kids on that day!
3. Do you wash clothes throughout the week or only on a specific day?
I have to wash clothes throughout the week. There is no way I can get all the clothes for eight people (two families) washed in a single day!
4. What is one of the most popular 'spams' you get in your junk email inbox?
I don't check my junk email. I have a section where most of the spam mail gets filtered, but some of them gets through to my regular email. Most of the ones that get through is making money at home spams. I know there are SOME legit work at home companies, but not many! Most of what I see, aren't legit!
5. Are you where you want to be? (you decide the meaning of the question for your answer)
I am where I want to be when it comes to my family. I am where I NEED to be when it comes to where I am living at the moment.
6. Do you know how to swim?
Like a fish! I love to swim! Practically every year (we haven't done it the last three years) my dad, brothers and I go to a lake and swim across it to see who gets to the other side first! He-he!! The guys are just to slow for me!!
7. Do you take trips with your girlfriends?
Sometimes. Like trips to the zoo or the museum. When we take "trips" we take them with our kids and let them spend the day together.
8. What was your favorite purchase this week? (big or small)
The only thing I purchased this week aside from necessities for the house and paying bills was paying to do my taxes electronically.

Okay, so I didn't win this giveaway at first, but the original winner, Becky won this same giveaway from Punky Monkeys. So, instead of keeping the bundle she won from Miranda, too, she decided pass this on and allow another drawing. And then I won!
I am a bit excited because YouCanMakeThis.com has all kinds of projects to choose from and I can't wait to choose my first one! This is the first giveaway I have won, so that really tops it off!

At first I didn't get why Great Aunt B had gotten so upset over the steps and part of the sidewalk being taken out and a ramp being put in. I mean at least now we didn't have to worry about fighting a wheelchair through her front yard when Aunt J came home. Which when it rains we all knew would be a big hassle fighting it through the mud in itself, much less having to lift the wheelchair up to get it into the yard in the first place. Now at least all we had to do was push the wheelchair through the gate and right up the ramp.
But since Saturday, I have been thinking about the ramp that the guys put in to replace all those steps. Now when I go to pick up Great Aunt B to take her to visit Aunt J, it just isn't the same for me. I don't like walking up the ramp and I really miss those steps! Now I understand what Great Aunt B was getting upset about!
I never, in a million years, thought that those steep, cemented steps would be removed. I know I took for granted that they would always be there! I cannot find a single good picture of them in any of the pictures I have! Now I'm really wishing that I would have taken a picture of them. Yeah, they are just a set of steep stairs that was a hassle getting up when covered with ice, but there are a lot of memories going up and down them.
I do have pictures of they guys taking out part of the side walk and the steps in front of Great Aunt B's house.
This is when I realized that they were starting to take out part of the sidewalk. My dad (in the dark blue shirt) is standing on the steps that are still there.
Three of them regrouped to move part of the sidewalk better. Look at how dad just supervises them! Ha-ha!!
They are moving it to the side on top of some other borders. I think they kept saying something about how heavy things were moved back in the Roman times. I'm not really sure what they were mumbling about. I was more interested in getting more pictures. The steps are still intact in this picture.
They finally have it moved over! That was a lot of work! Now time to move the steps behind dad! They are still there!
So, I was inside painting when they took out the steps! It was to painful to watch them move them out! They are gone in this picture and now Chatterbox and dad are lining boards up to make sure that everything will be straight when it's time to make the ramp.
I don't have a picture of the finished ramp yet, but I will have it soon. I actually forgot to take a picture of it this morning!
The funniest thing though was we took turns digging out dirt in order to even it out a bit more. The adults decided to take a little break, so all the kids grabbed a shovel and started digging. It needed to be done, so we let them dig. While they were digging a couple of people walked by and looked up at us like we were nuts. I could just imagine what they were saying! "Look at those lazy adults! They are having them kids dig that dirt with shovels while they sit around!" I forgot to get pictures of them digging, but it was cute!

I seen this the past few weeks at Stacy's Random Thoughts and figured that it would be fun to join in. I was going to join in last week, but things got a little bit crazy for me, so I am joining in this week instead! Better late than never, right?! For more Random Tuesday Thoughts or to join in on the fun yourself, check out Keely's place and link up!
I find it very hard to blog without music background... Am I the only one like this? Right now I can't really play any music because S is sleeping and I don't want to disturb him. He works nights and has been lucky enough to be able to pick up a few extra hours at his work! So he needs all the sleep he can get right now. Of course, I am on a laptop and I could go into another room, but I really like working in the area I am at. Hmm... Maybe I can make out S's snores as a song while I blog.
I have been trying to talk Chatterbox into starting a blog of his own. He really has a lot to say, hence the name "Chatterbox". Ha-ha! I said to him, "At least then when it seems like no one is listening to you, you can at least go to a computer and type all of your thoughts down. I sure SOMEBODY will read it!" Don't worry, I'm sure he would agree that he is really a chatterbox. At least, he has when I told him he was. I think the reason he hasn't started one yet is because he's still a bit intimidated. He hasn't been in the technical world all that long anyway. Heck, he just really got into having his email account! Maybe he'll change his mind in a few months. His brain is always working over time!
This morning when I went to take Great Aunt B to visit Aunt J, my uncle T was over there. He mentioned something about trying to get everyone to Great Aunt B's house this weekend to do some more work on it. All I had to say was, "I'm way ahead of you on this one!" We got so much done last Saturday. I even asked Great Aunt B to make a list of everything she wanted done on the inside of the house so that the ladies can work inside and the men can work outside. I think I'll even get Double A and Princess T back over there helping out again. We'll see about that though.
It is warm outside, but it's so cloudy! Later this evening, we are supposed to get some rain and then later tonight and early into tomorrow morning, we are supposed to get some strong storms. Yea! Just what I need, two little bodies trying to climb in bed with me because they are scared. That's okay though. Then it will be two little bodies and one big body scared under the blankets because of a stinking bad thunder storm. I have to say that I don't like them much either!
I went to the library on Sunday. Yep, the library is open on Sundays! I really like that especially when I feel like I need to get some time away! I checked out two books for Princess T, one for Double A (I put a second book on hold for him) and four for myself. Only one of them was a fiction book! I'm almost done reading that and two of the nonfiction books I got, but both Double A and Princess T are already done with theirs'! They are some fast readers, they were done with them that very night! I guess I need to start checking out less books for me or more books for them so that we are all finished at the same time!
Now it's time to get ready to pick Princess T and Double A up from school! Hope everyone has a great day!

It's been a very busy day! My arms and legs are tired and my back is a bit achy! But one thing I learned today was that I may have been able to jump off a 32 foot tower (into a lake) as a child, but I am somehow still afraid of heights because I cannot get to the top step of a ladder! Go figure!
So today, a few family members got together and decided to take advantage of today's warm weather! We decided to go to Great Aunt B's house and do some work that needed to be done in order to be able to have Aunt J at home.
This morning I decided to go to Great Aunt B's house after I picked up my older brother, CJ, from his house and take S to work. Between picking up CJ and taking S to work, I was pulled over for not using a turn signal. Dang it! I knew I was getting pulled over as soon as I seen the cop in my rearview mirror and realized that I didn't use my turn signal. Usually, I use it, but this morning, I didn't! Luckily though, I didn't get a ticket for it! I was so glad not to have received an extra bill!
After that, I thought my entire day was going to be bad, but it wasn't really all that bad. I washed walls and items, painted and helped make a ramp for a wheelchair to go up the front steps (well, they were steps until we took them out). Even Double A and Princess T helped out.
I'm glad we got done with the things we did. There is still a lot left to do! But at least we are a step closer to having things ready for Aunt J to come home.

The weekend is finally here! It has been one of those weeks for me! Friday doesn't only mean the beginning of the weekend, but it also means it's Grilling Goodness day at Golden Goodness! If you would like to join in click here! Now on for some....
1. What do you do when you get mad?
That depends on what I get mad about and who I get mad at.
If I get mad at S, then I will jump in my stick shift car and drive on the highway for half an hour or so. For some reason shifting gears, really helps me release my anger. It's odd really and I don't know why that is.
If I get mad at someone other than S, then I usually go to S and vent to him or write. This gives me time enough to calm down first and then I would confront the person that I am mad at.
2. Do you wash your hair everyday?
I wash my hair every other day.
3. How often do you speak to your parents?
I speak to my parents often. My mom doesn't live near me, so I have to settle for emails, IM-ing, and sometimes blogging/blogging comments. We keep in contact with each other daily using one of these methods. I HAVE to have daily contact with her since she is in Tennessee by herself (well, she has her brother in Tennessee, too, but still!). If I don't hear from her in one day, I'm going crazy and so far, I haven't went two whole days without hearing from her. If that did happen, I would flip out and be on the phone with her local police department requesting a check on her. And they say that I'M the daughter, ha! As for my dad, I talk to him at least once or twice a week.
4. Your nails - painted or nude?
Nude. I like painted nails, but I mostly don't paint mine, for some reason!
5. What pair of shoes do you wear most often?
I wear my comfy tennis shoes. With summer around the corner, I am sure I will find me a new favorite pair of sandals or flip-flops.
6. If you could do anything you wanted to do this weekend, what would it be?
Anything? Hmmm.... I would go camping on my uncles property and take his canoe out on the lake by myself and fish the weekend away! It has been such a long time since I done that! I can't wait until I do that again. It won't be much longer now!
7. What's the best cough medicine you know of?
Mucinex. Seriously! I love it and so does Double A!
8. How do you feel about 'springing forward'??
The Spring Forward thing just started in Indiana a few years ago. Around here, I don't like it because it is literally daylight until almost ten at night! I really wish they would switch it to not needing to do it in Indiana just because of that. While in Tennessee, I didn't mind it at all.

Monday is here again! I can't believe how fast the week has passed! It is time once again to list things I DID NOT do this week! This blog carnival was started by MckMama. Check out her blog to see what others DID NOT do this week. While you are there, join in on the fun!
Our car license plate expired on Sunday morning, so we had to go to the DMV to get new a Indiana license plate for the car. We DID NOT get in and out of the DMV in record time! The DMV is ALWAYS busy and you can count on being there all day long when you go!
I DID NOT insist that our old license plate (from Tennessee) stay on the car until the last possible second before the changing it to the new one. I also DID NOT insist on hanging the Tennessee plate on my wall! I am NOT that obsessed with my Tennessee license plate!
I DID NOT consider the possibility of pretending that I had lost my Tennessee driver's license when I get my Indiana driver's license just to keep the Tennessee one! I would NEVER consider that and I'm absolutely NOT that obsessed with the state of Tennessee. Really, I'm NOT!
I DID NOT act like such a baby when I had an earache over the weekend that S and Princess T took pity on me. I mean REALLY I am NOT that big of a baby! Sheesh! What kind of mother and wife would I be if I were?
I DID NOT get all excited about a close out sale that S told me about only to be extremely disappointed to find out that the sale wasn't as good as S made it out to be in the first place. I totally knew that he was exaggerating and he DID NOT fool me at ALL!
I was NOT proud of the items Princess T decided to buy with her own money at the previously mentioned sale! She totally DID NOT shop smart and picked school items to buy!
I DID NOT do a happy dance when I seen that I had gotten another blog award! Who would do such a thing? Surely NOT ME! I DO NOT plan on making a post on it soon, either! Nope, NOT ME!
I was NOT extremely proud of Princess T and Double A when they decided to donate some of their books over the weekend! They would NEVER want to give away anything that were their's!
What did you NOT do this week? Be honest! I promise I won't laugh (uncontrollably)!
Sunday, March 1, 2009
This weekend has went by pretty smoothly. It's been pretty quiet around here and I'm thankful for that. It's been a while since it's been this quiet.
On Friday we went to the license branch to get Indiana plates for the car. We were surprisingly in and out of there! I thought it was going to be a lot busier than what it was! I guess that's the perk to being able to go online and get things done now!
Yesterday I had an earache! Oh my, I was such a big baby with it! I couldn't help it though! Thankfully, Princess T and S took care of me. I still have an earache, but not as bad as the one I had yesterday!
Today, I took Great Aunt B to visit Aunt J and Princess T decided that she wanted to go in, too. So, we went in and stayed for a bit. I was thrilled to find out that Aunt J had eaten not only ALL of her lunch, but she also ate two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and drank three cartons of milk! Her appetite was really there today! She usually barely eats anything at all for lunch. Princess T did a happy dance and praised Aunt J for eating so well. It was kind of cute, really! Aunt J was in a great mood and was glad that we were visiting with her. She held a great conversation with us and told us about the dog that she was able to pet not long before we got there. She is really trying to get stronger. Later when I picked Great Aunt B up to take her home, she told me that Aunt J ate ALL of her dinner, too. I hope she keeps that up! If she does, she'll be ready to head home in no time at all! Maybe that car ride to the dentist really did give her some extra hope after all!
Princess T decided that she wanted to go through some of her and Double A's books and donate the ones that they already read or don't want anymore to kids that can't afford to get any books. I love it when they give like that! We were able to part with several books and now the bookshelf isn't so crowded. Maybe in a couple of months, we'll try to
get rid of donate more books.
That was pretty much how my weekend went. Hope you had a great weekend!
Saturday, February 28, 2009
Yes, I know it's now Saturday, but I still wanted to join in. I had so much to do yesterday, that I just couldn't squeeze this in until just now! So, I am pretending that I still have a couple of hours left of Friday and do this anyway. Besides, it is technically still Friday in California, right???
Anywho, if you would like to join in on this pretend it's still Friday and head on over to Golden Goodness and join in on the fun! Don't forget to link up!
1. What is your favorite thing about Springtime?
Everything! I love the beginning blooms of the flowers and trees, the grass turning green, animals coming out of hibernation, and the temps warming up! Spring time is one of my favorite seasons! The other is Summer!
2. Do you prepare special, maybe even fun, meals for your kids? Example, please.
3. What are you looking forward to this weekend?
Lots of family time!
4. Within driving distance, where do you like to go for a little getaway?
I would go to my uncle's property in Greene County. I love spending time there because we use it as a camping spot for a weekend. If it was warm enough right now, I'd probably be there, but it's still a bit cold yet!
5. Laundry detergent: liquid or powder?
My family used powder when I was a kid. I prefer to use the liquid though.
6. What does your spouse do around the house that you appreciate the most?
He does a lot around the house, really. Especially on his days off of work. I have to say that I appreciate him taking out the trash the most!
7. Do you converse with the grocery checker or pay and bolt?
I'm not much of a talker. I will chat with the grocery checker if he/she speaks to me first, but I mostly just pay and bolt...
8. Have you ever had an MRI? (If you feel comfortable sharing why, please do.)

Making Ants on a Log with Cream Cheese! Yummy!
You'll need celery, cream cheese, and raisins!
First, scoop out some cream cheese....
Next, spread the cream cheese on top of the celery....
Finally, add some raisins on top of the cream cheese....
You have Ants on a Log! So easy to make, so good to eat!
Enjoy! Double A and Princess T most certainly did!

I'm sick! Everyone in this house is sick. As I sit here typing this, I am hearing Double A cough, the poor guy! We all have a horrible cold! Double A and Mr. Wiggles have it the worst though. Double A is vomiting and both Double A and Mr. Wiggles had to have breathing treatments this week. Yuck, I tell you!
What bothers me the most is the fact that I know where this yucky cold came from. It came from Tater's house, it did! His girlfriend had her two sons spend the night at Great Aunt B's house this past Friday and Lady J was over there, too. (Remember, Lady J is my niece.) Tater's girlfriend knew her two boys were sick and she still let them stay and by Sunday night, Lady J and Great Aunt B had their colds! Lady J brought it over here since she stays with me until Chatterbox (aka Skinny) is finished remolding his house.
In my opinion it was completely inconsiderate of Tater and his girlfriend to allow their two boys to spend the night at Great Aunt B's house knowing that they were sick with colds. Mainly because they know that Great Aunt B visits with Aunt J and they know how bad Aunt J is right now. She has been hospitalized over and over because she's caught the common cold and needed to be isolated before. I have talked to them about this the last time they passed the cold on like this, but apparently I was talking to the walls instead. I should have known that, of course!
I know I sound like a horrible person right now, but this really irks me! When one knows the problems a common cold will cause others, why purposely pass it around? I mean really? Couldn't they just keep the boys at home until they got over the cold?
This cold isn't just a regular cold! It's an extremely hard cold! It settles in the chest, nose, sinuses, and have mercy, the ears! Princess T, Lady J and I all have ear aches with this cold! Well, Princess T and Lady J don't now, but they did. I am the only one with the ear ache now!
Thank you for letting me rant and complain!
On another note, I noticed yesterday that I had three less followers than the day before. At first, I thought it was because a few people had gotten offended with me dropping the f bomb on my blog. I am glad that wasn't the case. Apparently, blogger is in the process of integrating with Google Friend Connect and they had to set some users as "anonymous". This means that I still have all of my followers, but some are now following anonymously. See, I do notice each and every one of you!
You can easily fix this by clicking "Manage" under the list of blogs you follow and switching your settings back to public.
Now I'm off to take some cold medicine and take something for this horrible ear ache!

Since Double A and Princess T had no school on Monday, I wanted to take them to the Children's Museum so that they would still learn something. I had asked another family member if she could take Great Aunt B to visit Aunt J so that we could spend the entire day there and was told that she couldn't because she had to help out at her local food pantry as she did every Monday. So, I know it was NOT ME who seen her with her own children at the Children's Museum on that very day at the time she said she'd be helping out at the food pantry.
When this same family member invited me to take Double A and Princess T to Chuck E Cheese on Wednesday, I told her that I couldn't because Aunt J had a dentist appoint, which was true. It was nice of her to invite me and my children and I surely would NOT have taken them on Saturday without returning the invite to her. Nope, that would be completely rude and I'm just NOT that rude. Not even when it comes to being lied to.
I DID NOT catch up on reading all the blogs that I was behind on last week. I have to much to do during the day to have gotten caught up finally! I just DID NOT have the time!
I DID NOT suggest to Skinny aka Chatterbox that him and his soon to be fiance needed to watch "Fire Poof" before they get married because of all the bickering they'd been doing all week towards each other. If I would have done such a thing, I absolutely WOULD NOT have laughed when Skinny's soon to be fiance said, "I don't need to watch any fuckin' movie!"
These are just some of the things I DID NOT do this week. What did you NOT DO this week? Please share!
Friday, February 20, 2009
It's finally Friday and I love participating in this meme! Tina at Golden Goodness always seem to come up with fun questions (or as in the case this week a fill-in) to be answered! If you would like to join in or see what others answered then go here! Now on to my answers!
1. What is your favorite family activity?
Anything that has to do with moving around outdoors!
2. Do you know how to play poker?
3. Have you ever been to a chiropractor?
4. Have you ever slopped pigs or milked cows?
5. How are you doing with the goals you made for the New Year?
I think I have been sticking to them pretty well.
6. Is there something you dread doing every day?
This really isn't an "everyday" thing, but when S needs to go to work early and I have to take him, I dread getting up extra early in the morning to pick him up from work.
7. What room in your home would you most like to buy new furniture for?
My living room....
8. If I had a dollar for every time I hear "I forgot!", I'd be able to buy a new home, a truck, a car and I'd still have money left over.

Aunt J has been extremely sick and in the hospital since July 2008. She was moved from the hospital to a rehab center at the beginning of November 2008. When she was first admitted into the hospital, she was unable to sit up on her own, much less do much of anything else for herself.
Every single day that Aunt J has been in the hospital and the rehab center, my Great Aunt B has went to sit with her for at least 5 hours a day. Most of the time, I take Great Aunt B to see her and every night I take Great Aunt B home when she's ready.
On the way home last week, Great Aunt B told me that the rehab center had scheduled a dentist appointment for this week and the only problem was that Aunt J's insurance wouldn't cover the transportation that it would take to get her there. The rehab center had suggested that she'd pay for a taxi to get her there.
I instantly wondered why we would pay for a taxi when I have a perfectly capable car that would be easy for Aunt J to get in and out of. We weren't really sure exactly how she would do sitting up in a vehicle anyway, but if the rehab center felt she could handle sitting up in a vehicle, without ever trying it, then why not try it in one that she was already familiar with, with family she was comfortable with. I instantly asked Great Aunt B to find out if we could take Aunt J to this appointment instead. They agreed to let us take her.
Yesterday was Aunt J's dentist appointment venture. We got to the rehab center a bit early, but we wanted to be sure that she was ready to go. Aunt J wasn't entirely excited about going since she'd only be going to the dentist and not home as she really wishes she could. We ventured out without really knowing how she would handle getting in and out of her wheelchair and my car. I was prepared though and knew what I needed to do in case she couldn't do it since I worked as a CNA before, so I wasn't to worried about the "what if she can't do it" part of the whole thing.
She did do it though! She did a lot better than either I or Great Aunt B had thought she would. She held most of her own weight moving from her wheel chair and the car when she needed to. The last report that we had, she had only been able to hold about 30% of her weight and I had been prepared to hold the other 70% when moving from wheelchair and the car, but I have to say that she doubled that yesterday! Once we got her into the car and we were on our way, she started enjoying the car ride. The smile on her face the entire time was priceless! She was going somewhere and even if it was for a short time, she enjoyed actually sitting up instead of laying down as she normally did on her trips to dialysis.
When I first found out how sick Aunt J was, I made the decision to relocated and leave the life that I had grown accustomed to and loved. We, as a family, have had to make a lot of adjustments, but I really wanted to be around my Great Aunt B to help her through this hard time for her. Aunt J may be just Great Aunt B's niece legally, but in the heart, Aunt J is more like Great Aunt B's daughter. This has really taken a toll on Great Aunt B. I wanted to be able to help her in any way that I could even if it meant that I'd be the only one helping her and no one else did. Seeing the smile and the joy on Aunt J's face just because she had been able to get out of the rehab center and go for a car ride to her dentist appointment has been totally worth all of the adjusting that we have had to make in the last seven months!
We are trying to help Aunt J get well enough to come home and with yesterday's trip, we know that she is getting closer every day to coming home! Thank you, God!

It's been a week since my last post! What a stressful, busy and crazy week it's been for me!
By last Monday afternoon, I was completely stressed out and at my wits end. Instead of going completely off the deep end, I decided to use my extra energy to clean out the room we have been using as a basic storage room and turn it into an actual bedroom. Once I finished that, I spent three days rearranging it and the rest of my house. I would arrange a room one way and then turn around and arrange it another way just for the heck of it. It actually took me that long to get most of my frustrations out of my system. The entire time, I hadn't turned on my computer.
By Friday night, I decided to catch up on the tons of emails I had waiting on me and all of your blogs. As of right now, I'm up to last Wednesday.
I would have been farther if I would have spent time on the computer on Saturday, but of course, it was Valentine's Day and I chose to spend it with my loving hubby. We had a great Valentine's Day and night. I spent most of the day with my husband, kids and my Aunt J. Then I spent the evening and night with just my husband. We didn't really do anything other than watch a few movies, but that was okay with me. That's all I really wanted to do anyway. I was still trying to relax after being so frustrated during the week. One of the movies we watched was Fireproof and we decided that we would have to buy the DVD. We absolutely loved it. I totally cracked up at my husband because it made him cry, but I had to hide the tears the movie made me shed, too. I'm totally weird like that. I usually hate any tear jerking movie, but I absolutely loved this one! I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day! Remember, I'm still trying to catch up with all of you!
Today, I took Double A and Princess T to the Children's Museum and the three of us made a full day of it. We had a great time! We spent about five hours there and it was pretty crowded. I'd have to say that it was great for me. I was able to withstand a crowd that big without having a big freak out session and curling myself up into ball within a half-hour of being there, as I normally would. Princess T and Double A decided to try rock climbing. It was pretty cute. I let Double A take pictures of Princess T climbing and then let Princess T take pictures of Double A. Princess T didn't get very far up the rock, but she did get a lot farther than Double A. He didn't even make the first step up. Seriously! Both kids learned a lot and they looked up extra information about some of the things they learned there, when we got home. I love it when their little minds want to continue to work like they did today!
I am now off to catch up on reading the rest of your blogs! It's so good to be back!

About a week ago, I posted about the nicknames my brothers, cousins, and I were given. I asked at the end of my post if someone could guess what nickname was given to me. Blueviolet at A Nut in a Nutshell tried to guess what it was and I thank her very much for trying!
Anyway, I hated this name and was glad that it didn't stick with me as long as Tater's stuck with him. (He's still called Tater sometimes!)
My horrible nickname was "Puppy Dog".
Why Puppy Dog? Well, because I would pretended I was a little puppy dog! It was my favorite game when I was younger. I would entertain myself for hours just pretending I was a little pup. Not long after my given nickname, I stopped pretending I was a puppy. That's how much I hated that name! Not that it was the most horrible one given out, it wasn't, but I thought it was pretty darned close!
Princess T was nicknamed "Puppy Pooh" because she followed in my footsteps and likes to pretend that she's a puppy. The thing is, she LOVES her nickname. Hmm. Maybe I would have liked mine better if mine was "Puppy Pooh".
But then again, maybe not. Her's sounds a bit close to "Puppy Poop"! I know my two mean brothers would have thought of the "Puppy Poop" thing and that would have been my new nickname. I'll take "Puppy Dog" over "Puppy Poop" any time!

I like to reward Double A and Princess T for good behavior and from time to time, I take them to the store and let them pick out something that they'd like. I decided to do this for them yesterday. It had been a while since I've done this for them and they really deserved it.
While we were there, S noticed the new Nascar collectibles that are out. When I noticed that he was checking them out, I said, "Don't you even think about it, mister!" I didn't realize that I had used my bossy mother voice until after I said it. Princess T, walking right beside me said, "Well, I guess daddy doesn't get a toy!" I couldn't help but to laugh when she said it because by the end of it, she realized how silly it sounded. Then she said, "Mom, you are going to blog about this, aren't you?" Hmm... Maybe she's trying to tell me that I'm starting to blog a bit much!
Princess T and Double A were invited to their cousin's birthday party today and Princess T was invited to spend the night afterwards for an all girls slumber party. After I explained to Double A why he hadn't been invited to spend the night he sighed heavily and said, "Girls these days!" Ha! Oh, son, if you only knew!
To make up for the fact that Double A hadn't been invited to spend the night after the birthday party, I decided we would take a trip to the bookstore. Double A loves to read, so a trip to the bookstore was perfect for him! I didn't make it to the original bookstore that we set out for because on our way there, I spotted a new bookstore called Books On Sale and decided to check that out instead. While looking around, Double A remembered that there was a new book out in a series that he has been collecting, A Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He decided to ask the cashier if they had the new book in that series there. (When he's looking for a certain book, he's not shy at all when it comes to asking someone if they have it!) They did and he was so excited! Then he noticed that the bookstore also gave out free bottles of water and that was it for him! "I am very impressed!" he exclaimed, pretty loudly. I think we found him a new favorite bookstore, which is fine with me because I think I can handle the prices of the books. The prices were very reasonable and they have a "trade books" policy, which I think is pretty cool.

1. Have your children corrected you somehow this week?
I had to laugh at this question! Princess T has to correct me at least two times every week and this week was no exception! I have this bad habit when I say numbers that have a hundreds value in them. For example, when I say 106, it comes out as "One hundred and six.." She is always saying, "Mom, there is NO 'and' in it. You need to say one hundred six! You only say the 'and' when there is a decimal! Do you see a decimal point in there? No! So, there is NO 'and'!" Okay kiddo! No 'and'! Got it! Until the next time I try saying 106 or 112!
2. Are you waiting for a particular something to happen?
I'm waiting for the temperatures to rise outside! I can't wait until spring!
3. Do you chat online?
Sometimes I chat with friends online. I am always chatting with my mom online!
4. What is the oldest thing you own?
My wine glasses. They are really old. They belonged to my grandmother and she purchased them before I was born. I love them!
5. What's for dinner tonight?
Chicken, boiled potatoes and broccoli and cheese!!
6. Are you artistic?
Hmm. As in drawing? No way! My dad is though!
7. Are you getting an income tax refund?
We are planning on getting an income tax refund.
Plans for it?
Paying debts owed to a great brother-in-law, getting a Wii game and a Wii fit with some Wii fit games! (Can't wait for that!) Maybe even get a digital camcorder. Then spending the rest on Double A and Princess T.
8. Do you use 'zero payments/zero interest for XX months' to buy things?
Not really. I like to pay for items in full when I buy them if I can. I save up money until I have enough to purchase whatever it is that I get.
What are your answers to these questions? Please share!

Another picture of fun in the snow! There were four people on the sled in this picture. Tater Tot, CJ, Princess T and MJ. They had a blast going down the hill! Tater is pushing them all down the hill!

If I would have been that childish, I WOULD NOT have stopped repeating those words with his simple suggestion of going to the nearest bookstore!
I DID NOT just realize how often I use exclamation points in my posts!

Snow is still on the ground today. The roads aren't as bad as they were, but there is still snow! It was warm enough to melt some of it today, so I decided to take advantage of it before all the snow melted. (Of course, I doubt it will all melt anytime soon since it's supposed to get cold again tomorrow and snow again either tomorrow or Tuesday.)
So, I decided to take the kids sledding today with Tater and his girlfriend. (His girlfriend and I have been friends since junior high.) It was their first time ever going sledding! What can I say? We used to live in Tennessee where there was not much snow! Anyway, they had a blast!
Princess T did not want to go down the hill her first time alone. She was so nervous. In the picture below, she is waiting for me to get in the sleigh with her!
But, I've learned a trick or two from my dear old dad, and told her that I would have to give the sleigh a good shove before I could get in it with her. Oops! I forgot to jump in the back!
Ah well, to late! She looks kinda mad, don't she? In the background, Double A has no problem going down that hill for the first time by himself!
Oh, wait... She's not mad.....
She's going again! This time, she's pushing herself down the hill with her hands!
What's that? What about Double A? How did he like his first time down the hill in a sleigh? Well, he obviously thought it was boring and was so ready to do this.....
But, I wasn't quite ready for that just yet, so he had to continue with just the measly little sleigh that he had at first. And yes, that's Princess T pushing herself down the hill with her hands again! (Also, that's Tater giving Double A a good push down the hill!)
All in all they had a blast! At one time they even had four people on one of those little sleds! To bad I didn't catch a good picture before they went down the hill!! It was hard to get a good face picture because no one wanted to sit and smile long enough. But, I did manage to get two of them to sit still and smile for a second, once. (Double A and M.J, Tater's oldest son.)
Me, my brothers and all of my cousins have nicknames. This had become a tradition in the family courtesy of my Aunt "Attitude". This has also moved down to our own children. Soon after each child was born, they are given a nickname and then it becomes official with Aunt Attitude's agreement. Well, each child is given a nickname soon after each child was born with the exception of me, my two brothers, and four of Attitude's daughters. How did this come about you ask? Well, I am glad you asked such a question! This is how it came to be a family tradition.....
Once upon a time, Attitude's sister was pregnant. This was to be her first niece or nephew, but not the first born child of the next generation. Attitude already had claims to the first born child of the next generation. Anyway, Attitude's sister, Naive, had only one craving the entire time she was pregnant. Her one and only craving was potatoes. Not potatoes cooked different ways. Oh no! There was only one way the potatoes had to be made. Any other way just wouldn't do! They had to be fried potatoes, without exception. Naive ate fried potatoes morning, noon and night throughout her pregnancy. In fact she ate so many potatoes, that Attitude commented to Naive that she wasn't going to have a baby, but she was going to have one big "Tater". And thus began the first nickname upon our generation.
Once Tater was born, this stuck with him and was called "Tater", no matter the true name his mother had given him. For years, he had been the only nicknamed child of our generation. That was until the rest of realized that "Tater" wasn't his name, but just a nickname given him by Attitude.
When we inquired as to why he was the only one with a nickname, she decided to assign the rest of us nicknames, also. The nicknames she had given to her daughters in order were Ape Shit (Don't know why really), Skeeter, Cry Baby, and Huggy. Seriously, I didn't know Huggy's real name until I was 15 years old! But, I think it had more to do with the fact that they moved away while we were really young and I didn't have the opportunity to learn Huggy's real name. It took them a long time before Attitude contacted the family again, but more do to marital (or I should say ex-marital) reasons than anything else.
As I've said, this tradition has been passed down to our own children. For example, Tater's youngest son is Tater Tot. Double A's is Cuddles and Princess T's is Puppy Pooh. Can you guess what mine was??? Go ahead and take a guess!
Oh and Sunny, you are NOT allowed to guess!
Hint: Princess T has one part of my nickname, kinda like Tater Tot has one part of Tater's nickname. My nickname was two words. Good luck! I promise I will reveal what it was in a few days.

My blog makeover finished! I love it! I don't think I will get tired of this look as quick as I did the last one! Thank you so much, Tara! What do you all think? If you need a blog makeover, please consider having Tara do one for you. As you can see, she does a great job, she offers them at reasonable prices, and she is very easy to work with.
I am working on grabbing all the buttons of those blogs that I follow and putting them on the side of my blog. I am also planning on listing other blogs that I read who don't have buttons. So, look for these changes and maybe a few others.
Oh, and please be sure to grab my pretty button on the side and put it on your blog!
Thank you again, Tara!!

Finally! The chatterbox decided to go and chew on someone else's ear tonight! Now it's just me, my music and four little ones in their beds! Just the way I like it when it's time to blog!
Today was another snow day! The side streets were way to bad for the buses to get through. I've noticed they have improved a bit throughout the day. From the time I took Great Aunt B to visit Aunt J to the time I picked her back up and took her back home. I got us stuck in the snow three times today. Luckily, I had S with me to get us unstuck right about the time my face started to get red and right before I started screaming some colorful words, as if it would help me get the car out of the piled up snow! I'm so glad that Uncle T finally agreed to take great Aunt B to visit Aunt J in his truck until I can park in front of Aunt B's house!
My dad came over last night and plowed the alley for us so we can get in and out of our parking spot. I was so glad he did that for us! S had to park at the gas station across the street before dad came over because he couldn't get the car back into the alley and into our parking space. There was and still is so much snow out there!! Have you heard? They are talking about a possibility of a blizzard (in Indiana, anyway) next week! Yikes!! The last blizzard I was in was the blizzard of '78 and I was still way to young to remember it!
I wish I had some batteries for my camera yesterday! I would have taken a ton of pictures! My dog, Spot, had a great time playing out in the snow and didn't have any interest in coming back in!
Skinny did manage to shovel a walkway from the back door to the vehicles and then he shoveled our walk from the back to the front. That was pretty cool of him and I was able to catch up a bit on reading your blogs. Okay, that was mean, but you really have no ideal!
I am sure the schools will be in session tomorrow so I am going to finish catching up reading your blogs and then I'm going to get some much needed rest!

You must be wondering where I've been these last couple of days. If you haven't, then I'll just pretend that you have!
I've still been feeling a bit irritated and I've really been trying to keep the negativity away from this blog. I swear I have been trying to read all of your blogs, but every time I try to put an effort into it, Skinny has something he wants to talk about. It's not as if he's saying anything new, really. Just the same thing over and over. Then when he notices that I'm paying more attention to reading the blogs, he'll ask some silly question and of course, I sit there with a deer in the headlights look on my face. You'd kinda think that he'd get the ideal by now, but nope! I know, I sound so mean, but it really irritates me when he does that! Sure, I can say, "Hey! Can't you see I'm reading blogs and catching up with Bloggy Land?" and I have, but he doesn't seem to care. It's as if he continues to do it, just to bug the crap out of me! Do you go through this kind of crap with other people when you are trying to catch up on reading blogs? Don't count the kiddies or hubbies, of course!
On Sunday, I went and bought some puzzles as planned. I took Princess T with me. She loves to go shopping! I picked out a set of 10 puzzles with dolphins and other ocean creatures. The set came with puzzles from 100 to 500 pieces. To prove that I was willing to share the puzzles I was getting, I let T pick out the other ten set puzzles. She picked out a great set that had all kinds of different designs on them. I think she mainly picked the one she did because one of them had a horse on it. Her set came with puzzles from 500 to 1000 pieces in each puzzle. I would have taken pictures of the sets, but I forgot to get new batteries from the store! We are going to be very busy solving these puzzles!!
After we picked out the puzzles sets, Princess T HAD to check out the toy isles! Boy, she really has to look at EVERY toy item there was! But, I didn't mind, really. It was time away from the house and she was trying to figure out which toy she was going to save her extra money for. She's really good at saving money for something she really wants and I think it's a great way for her to see that money doesn't "grow on trees" and a great way to ensure that she takes better care of her things. I only wish I could get Double A to do that at times, but he's not really interested. Typical boy, right?
I've been trying to figure out what kind of design I want to have for my blog makeover. So many choices! Now so little time!! But, I've been browsing and I think I've got it down to two choices.
Today is a snow day here! I am so glad I don't have to drive on the horrible roads this morning! I just hope that the roads are cleared when I go take Great Aunt B to see Aunt J today! Maybe I'll even take Princess T with me when I go today! She loves visiting with her Great Aunt J!
For now, I'm off to catch up on your blogs while everyone is still in bed and the "talker" isn't around!!
Sunday, January 25, 2009
I finally caught up with my dad yesterday, after him avoiding me on Friday night. Not a surprise, really. Of course, he thought he would be able to avoid me again yesterday by waiting until he thought I'd be on my way to taking my great Aunt B to see my Aunt J. Luckily, great Aunt B decided to wait a bit longer than normal before going yesterday.
As she was getting something she had forgotten in her house, I seen my dad pull up behind me, parking. I jumped on the chance since I didn't know when I'd get the chance to catch him again and reminded him about the bet we made.
He finally paid his debt after trying to convince me that he'd "forgotten his wallet at home" and seen that I wasn't buying that excuse. He declared that he'd have to catch up with Tony Dungy and get the $50 back that he lost on our bet. Yeah, good luck with that dad, I tried to go a small $5, but you wanted to make it more!
Today, I've been feeling a bit irritated. I guess that's what happens when you let some family members stay in your home while they are remolding their's. So, I am on my way out the door in a hunt of some good puzzles to buy. You know what they say, there's nothing like a little bit of shopping to make you feel better.
If I'm not feeling better by the time I get back, then I plan on picking a design I'd like to have as my blog makeover.
I've decided to get both the puzzles and the blog makeover! It was so hard to pick between the two and with the sale Tara is having on her blog makeovers, I just couldn't pass up that opportunity! If you haven't checked out her Grand Opening Sale just yet, then go on over and check it out!

Even though I didn't vote for President Obama, I believe that he is the person we need to lead our country at this time. Congratulations to him! I watched his inauguration yesterday and I've never watched another President's inauguration before. But, this is history in the making and I didn't want to miss it for anything!! I am very proud of how far this country has gotten!
Please read Uncle Hank's story that I posted a few days ago. Both Uncle Hank and I would really love to see what the Late Noon Views readers thought of his story. To update you, he isn't upset that I posted his story, but is interested in what you think of it. So, please take a minute and read it and please be sure to comment! Thank you so much!
Yay! I was given another award!! This award is the Honest Scrap Award and I received this award from my bloggy friend Danielle at Life with the Hewitt Family! Thank you so much Danielle!!
The rules for this award are as follows...
- Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.
- Show the 7 winners' names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with "Honest Scrap". Well, there is no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
- List at least ten honest things about yourself.
So, ten honest things about myself...
- My real first name is Valorie. I like to use Elisabeth because (1) it really is my middle name, but it is spelled with a "z", not an "s", (2) I like my middle name better than my first name and really wish my mom would have stuck to her guns with that name. But, she didn't and allowed my dad to stick the "Valorie" in front of it after mom's sister, and (3) I like the way it is spelled differently. You know with the "s" instead of the "z". The other night Skinny seen how I spelled Elisabeth on this blog and he was all like, "Uhmmm... Is that really the way you spell your middle name because Lady J's middle name is spelled with the 'z'." No worries Skinny, Lady J's middle name is exactly like mine!
- I am stubborn. It's true! I am one stubborn person! I happened to inherit this great quality from my grandmother (dad's mom). I am always being told, "You remind me of your grandmother. She is the only one half as stubborn as you!" My reply? "Yeah, I know! Thank you!"
- I like to use my stubbornness as an advantage. If it weren't for me being so stubborn, I don't think I would have graduated college. I like to use it more as a way to help me not quit something that challenges me.
- I enjoy fishing. Oh, I'm in a fisher's heaven in the summer! Especially when I take my uncle T's canoe out on the lakes by myself. I am out on the lakes ALL day long! And yes, I do touch those slimy worms to bait the hook and the yucky fish to take them off. It was a must do when I was a kid. I still find it gross each year when I first put the worm on the hook or take the fish off, but I get over it pretty quickly.
- I am the biggest daddy's girl in the entire world! I do love my dad! I truly believe that he can move the moon and the stars in the sky for me if I asked him to!
- My entire jewelry collection consists of my wedding ring and my class ring. That's it. I NEVER take these two rings off of my hands, unless I'm cleaning them. I do have my ears pierced, but I don't wear earrings.
- I don't wear makeup very often. I do once in a great while, but not very often.
- My favorite animal in the world is the dolphin. They are extremely smart! I've heard tons of stories where people have been stranded in the ocean and they only survived because of a dolphin's help. They can also fight off sharks. I tell you, if somehow I ever get stranded in the ocean, I would really want a dolphin to help me out!
- My birth sign is Gemini. It seems that I live up to that birth sign because I like changes. I get bored with the same things easily and I sometimes leave a project for a while and go back to it a few months later.
- When I was nine years old, I jumped off a 32 foot tower into a lake. I was so glad that I experienced jumping off the 32 foot tower when I did because they shut down the beach with the tower and put a regular pool in the following year.
I would like to pass this award to....
- Tollesons4him at Tollesons4him
- Alicia at My life as a mother, wife and woman
- Veronica at Of Mice and Ramen
- Tina at Golden Goodness
- Keli at Dream. Imagine. Live
- mom 3 crazy girls at mom3crazygirls
- Heather at Queen of Shake-Shake

I finally talked to my dad the other day! I had to go see him in person since he waited so long to put the phone back on the hook. He tells me he'll have the money to me on Friday. I've taken a few suggestions of what to do with this little bit of extra cash into consideration and I think I've narrowed to two options.
I really did like the book ideal, but then Double A's retiring teacher gave Double A a whole load of books. So much so that they will keep him and Princess T busy for a while, so I've decided not to go with the book idea after all!
Mother Goose suggested that I host a give away for it on here and nominated herself as the winner! Ha! Nice try, but no. Maybe next time though!
Anyway, I am still stuck on the puzzle idea. I LOVE, love, love solving puzzles! I enjoy it so much that I have this small problem sharing the puzzle I am solving! Seriously, I do! If anyone so much as puts a piece of the puzzle in its place, I am done with it and will walk away from it, not touching it again. I know it makes me look like an ass admitting it, but it seems that I can't help myself! Did I mention that I love puzzles?
I realize I really need to stop having this problem when it comes to sharing the enjoyment of solving puzzles and I am considering using this money to buy a few new puzzles and allowing Double A and Princess T help me with all of them.
The second option that I am still weighing is purchasing a blog makeover for my blog. I know my readers like it, but I like changing things up a bit after a while. You know, to stay on my toes!
Tara does great blog makeovers! Right now she is having a grand opening sale and she is offering 50% off of any blog makeover orders that are made before Feb. 1st! Go here to check out some of the designs and kits she can use to makeover blogs! Getting a blog makeover for about $13 is a great deal!
Heck, at that kind of price, I might even decide to get both options with the extra money I won! I'm still debating that! Stay tuned to find out what I've decided to do!
MckMama hosts a weekly Monday meme called, "Not me! Monday". The idea of this meme is to confess to all of the things you did "Not" do over the week, then link up with Mr. Linky and go read what others did "Not" do the past week. This looks like fun and I have "not" been wanting to get in on the action... This week, there was quite a bit of things that I did "not" do! It has "not" been a busy week for me!
I did "not" take my Aunt B to visit with Aunt J and left without reading the note on the door saying that visitors weren't being allowed inside due to a flu outbreak. I did "not" leave her there until she was able to call me to pick her up! I would never leave without knowing if she would be able to visit Aunt J or not!
I did "not" tell Princess T to wear a pair of boy pants since she didn't want to make sure her dirty clothes were in the dirty laundry basket. She is always responsible and would NEVER forget that specific small chore! If that did happen, she would "not" have gotten so irritated that she'd feel the need to ask me to make her "smell like a girl because boys stink!". If she were to ask me to do such a thing, I would "not" have sprayed a little body spray on her, and accidentally in Double A's eyes!
I did "not" continue to aggravate Princess T after already being irritated about wearing boy pants! If I would have done such a thing, she totally would "not" have had as much fun as I did with it and she most certainly would "not" think it was funny!
I did "not" feel a bit feisty on Tuesday and I did "not" purposely scare the crap out of my dog by sneaking up behind him and grabbing him. I most certainly would "not" have laughed hysterically at his reaction to it!
I did "not" agree to post my Uncle Hank's story on my blog for all to see, in hopes that the comments he gets on it would encourage him to start his own blog! The previous post does "not" have his story in it!
See? This week has "not" been a busy week for me! Totally boring! Go ahead and share the things you did "not" do this week! Go here and link up so others can read your list!
I know, mom, I was supposed to blog this as my Sunday blog! It's a day late, what can I say? Would it help if I said that Skinny went and picked up W and your two grandchildren and brought them over? How about if I said that Mr. Wiggles has been keeping me on my toes all day and evening? No? Yeah, I didn't think so! Ah well, on with my post then....
In my last post, I mentioned that I like to write. Well actually, I LOVE to write. I can say that I come by it honest, really. I mean shoot, my grandpa writes songs (and he sings his own songs. If you've ever heard of the song "The Ballad of the Pooper Scooper" then you've heard his song. They're not very popular, but still he writes and sings them!) and my uncle "Hank" enjoys writing. From what I've heard, uncle Hank has a ton of writing journals.
Uncle Hank writes hysterically funny stories, from what I've read. He has said that he was going to start a blog. The problem is, he said that over a year ago and here I am, sitting, waiting for him to start his blog and share some of his funny stories with the rest of us! It still hasn't happened! Speaking with my mom the other night, she happened to mention that maybe he hasn't started one because he doesn't think his writing is that good. I know a lot of people who like to write go through this. I know I do, but I blog anyway.
Anyway, we put our brains together and thought of (what we think is) a brilliant plan! I'll just post one of his stories that he emailed to mom last year and let my readers comment on what they thought of the story! Sorry Hank! You know we love you though! So, here is a story he wrote and emailed to mom.....
We were on our way to a family gathering to celebrate Danny and Ryan's graduation on what began as a warm Saturday morning in Tennessee. It remained such until we got somewhere just south of Columbus Indiana and found 65 North had been sealed off due to high water. 65 under water? (who woulda thunk?) So here we go travelin on the side-roads headin east for what seemed like forever because everything north was closed. I successfully negotiated some of the ponds crossing the roads, but always ended up back on 650S and was by then thinking that we'll soon be somewhere in Ohio.
Well (ya can't get there from here) the next so called pond was hidin a fairly good sized dip in the road and this is when I became aware that the car couldn't swim. Still, she pulled us up and out of it and immediately died. I'm thinkin, "Well, that's it. I've killed the car, the phone's in an area where we can't get reception, they'll find our bones picked clean by the ducks and Carol's complaining about something gettin wet in the backseat floorboard." Just as well because before us (on the same road) was a body of water that might as well have been the Ohio River. We sat there for awhile watchin cars come and go on the other side, inching into the water, then back-up because they finally make out the two morons sittin on the hood and just waitin for company.
About that time, a state trooper pulled up to the water, gets out and yells across, "DO YOU FOLKS NEED HELP?" So I open both doors lift the hood, raise my arms and yell back, "DUHHH!" He abruptly got into his car and rode away and I'm thinkin, "Oh great, he's goin back all the way to Mayberry to tell Andy."
About thirty minuets later a couple of Franklin firemen and a volunteer came up from behind us and at that point an act of human generosity began. They took us by boat across the same body of water that killed the car (not many people can boast about travelin 650S by boat) up to a church just south of Edinburg on S31. Just north of the church, 31N was under water up to the letters of the stop signs.
Long story short: There was about thirty people wandering around when the national guard drove in and announced they were to take us to a high school farther north. From there we went to another church on main street in Greenwood where we were met by the Red Cross. This whole process was treated as if everyone were family and I'll never forget that.
We called Gary from there, he came and drove us to the motel we were staying at and the next day he drove us down to fix the car. He pulled the plugs to get the water out of the intake manifold and told Carol to blow into the exhaust pipe (just kiddin! That's what I would have done). He got her going and said we should probably change the oil as a precaution so we followed him back to the house but by then, any moisture that had accumulated had burn out so we left, met my daughter for awhile, stopped at Marks, ate a little something and made our way back home. Seems like we got out just before the rest of it hit.
Like I said earlier, it truly was an unforgettable weekend and I wish I could thank everyone personally, all except one maybe. This one Red Cross volunteer approached me to see if I needed anything..I said, "No, I'm fine." She said, "WATER?"
So, there you have it! Uncle Hank's story! I don't know about anyone else, but I love the way that he turned a bad situation into a somewhat funny one! So, be honest and post what you think about his story in my comments. I would like him to see what others think and (hopefully) start a blog!
Oh, and uncle Hank, if you need help starting your blog, just email me and I'll help you with it! And another thing, if you are ticked off that I did this, just know that it was ALL mom's ideal!
